CLASSIC GERMAN STREUSEL CAKE

This German streusel cake - called Streuselkuchen -  is a classic coffee cake that is always a crowd pleaser. Here's how to make it!

First, warm the milk in the microwave or in a pot on the stove. Then set it aside.

Add flour and dry instant yeast to a mixing bowl.

To the bowl, also add sugar and the warm milk. Mix the ingredients together with your electric (hand) mixer using the dough hooks.

Then add the vanilla extract, soft butter, egg, and a pinch of salt to the bowl.

Keep kneading the dough for another 5 minutes until it no longer sticks to the sides of the bowl. Shape it into a ball and let it rest for 1 hour.

Once the dough has increased in size, roll it out so it fits the size of your baking pan. Let the dough rest for another 15 minutes.

In the meantime, prepare the crumbs/streusel by kneading flour, sugar, and butter together with your hands.

Lightly brush the dough with some water or milk.

Then evenly place the streusel on top of the dough. Bake the cake for 25-30 minutes until the crumbs are lightly golden brown.

Dust the cake with icing sugar before serving. This cake also freezes really well. Enjoy!
