Easy Vanilla Crescent Cookies

Originally from Austria, these buttery, crumbly crescent cookies are also popular in Germany and parts of Eastern Europe. Here's how to make them!

Cold Butter All-purpose Flour Ground Almonds Granulated Sugar Vanilla Extract Egg Yolk Powdered Sugar

First, cut the cold butter into small pieces and place them into a mixing bowl.

Also add the flour, ground almonds, sugar, vanilla extract and egg yolk to the bowl.

Mix everything together with a pastry cutter or your hands. Then use your hands to press the dough together until it forms a ball. Don't overknead!

Wrap the dough in cling film (or put it into a plastic bag) and place it in the fridge for at least one hour. Then take it back out and cut it into four pieces.

Briefly knead the dough, then roll it out with your hands until it becomes a long “sausage” with a thickness of approximately 1/2 inch.

Now cut the dough into 3-inch long pieces and shape them into crescents. Repeat these steps with the rest of the dough.

Place the cookies on a baking sheet and bake them at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for approximately 15-17 minutes.

When the edges start to brown, remove the cookies from the oven and dust them in powdered sugar right away.

And that's it - enjoy these vanilla crescent cookies! You can check out the full recipe for more detailed instructions and tips.
