Recipes from Europe

If you're looking for an easy recipe to make with fresh plums, try this German plum cake. Sweet and tart, it's topped with delicious streusel crumbles!

What You'll Need

Plums Flour & Sugar Butter & Egg Instant Yeast Milk Salt Vanilla Extract Ground Cinnamon

Start by combining the flour and yeast in a mixing bowl. Then add the sugar, salt and warm milk. Mix with your electric mixer using the spiral dough hooks.

Next, add the vanilla extract, egg and soft butter. It's important that they are at room temperature.

Knead for about 5 minutes until the dough is smooth and elastic and doesn't stick to the sides of the bowl. Cover with a dishtowel and let it rise for about 1 hour.

In the meantime, make the streusel. Add flour, butter, sugar, and cinnamon to a bowl. Knead with your hands until crumbly and no flour spots are visible.

When the dough is done rising, briefly knead the dough and then roll it out with a rolling pin to fit your baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

Let the dough rise for another 15 minutes. In the meantime, wash the plums, cut them in half and remove the stone, and then slice them.

Arrange the plum slices on top of the dough. You can overlap them if you want.

Finally, sprinkle the streusel on top. Then bake the cake at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for about 30 minutes.

Let the baked cake cool slightly, then cut it into slices. You can sprinkle it with powdered sugar before serving if you want. Enjoy!
