Kaassouffle (Dutch Cheese Snack)

How To Make

Recipes from Europe

If you like fried cheese, Kaassouffle is a recipe for you! Made with puff pastry and gouda cheese, this Dutch snack is really easy to make and the perfect comfort food!

What You'll Need

Puff Pastry Gouda Cheese Eggs Breadcrumbs Salt Black Pepper Cooking Oil

First, lightly roll out the puff pastry and cut it into thirds on a cutting board.

Then fold the cheese slices in half and place one on the top half of each piece of puff pastry. Fold the pastry over, then use a fork to pinch the edges.

Crack an egg in a small bowl and whisk well. This will be used for breading the cheese snack later.

In another bowl, add the breadcrumbs and spices (salt and pepper), and mix together to give the crumbs some flavor.

Using a silicone brush, egg wash both sides of the raw dough. Be sure to also get the edges... otherwise the breading won't stick.

Then, place the breadcrumbs on a plate and roll the raw kaassouffle in the breadcrumbs. Cover both sides and the edges completely.

Deep fry the souffles (best option) at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for  2 minutes per side. You can also pan fry them or even bake them. Enjoy with dip!
