Spanish Flan

How To Make

Recipes from Europe

Spanish flan, also known as “Flan de huevo” or “Flan Casero” is a delicious egg pudding. It's easy to make and enjoyed with a delicious caramel sauce.

What You'll Need

Granulated Sugar Lemon Juice Water Whole Milk Eggs Vanilla Bean/Extract Whipped Cream

Start with the caramel sauce. Add sugar and lemon juice to a pan and swirl it around by moving the pan.

Heat on medium heat while continuing to swirl the pan. Add water, then cook on low while mixing with a spatula. Set aside.

Next, we'll make the flan. Heat the milk in a saucepan. Then add the seeds of the vanilla bean or vanilla extract.

Bring the milk to a boil, then remove from heat and add the sugar. Let it cool for 5 minutes.

Crack eggs into a bowl and whisk. Once the milk has cooled, add it slowly while mixing well. Then strain the mixture.

Assemble the flan by adding some caramel sauce to the flan molds. Then pour the flan mixture on top.

Cover with foil and bake in a baking tray filled with water. When done, let them cool and later transfer to fridge.

To serve, run a knife along the edges, then turn it upside down. Garnish with more caramel sauce or whipped cream. Enjoy!
