Recipes from Europe

If you're looking for a filling dish with phyllo dough, try this burek recipe. Made with spinach and cheese, it's a delicious  Balkan dish that doesn't take long at all!

What You'll Need

Phyllo Sheets Spinach Feta Cheese Onion Salt & Pepper Egg Olive Oil Yogurt

Sauté the chopped onions in a skillet until translucent. Add the spinach and cook until wilted. Stir regularly.

Next, add the feta cheese and cook for about 5 minutes or until the feta has melted. Keep stirring regularly.

When the feta is mixed in, taste and add salt and pepper to taste. The feta is usually quite salty already.

Whisk together the egg, olive oil, and yogurt in a small bowl to make the yogurt wash.

Brush the skillet with some yogurt wash, then add a phyllo sheet and brush as well. Repeat until you have a layer of 3 phyllo sheets.

Spread out half of the spinach feta mixture, then add more phyllo sheets, and repeat.

Tuck in the edges of the phyllo sheets if any are sticking out and brush the top with more yogurt wash. Cook at 350°F for 15-18 minutes until golden brown.

Let the burek cool for a few minutes, then cut slices and serve them on their own or with a glass of yogurt. Enjoy!
